Nightlight is a sculpture of a large-scale, n-functional, reflective desk lamp. The piece, which sits in a dark corner, is completed when the viewer illuminates it using the flash from a pocket or cellphone camera.
I am an emerging artist with a BFA from NSCAD University in painting and sculpture. I have a great interest in dimensionality, representation, time, and the engagement that the viewer may have with two- and three-dimensional works. I like to explore the relationship between objects and representation, and the interaction they have with space and with the public. I like using non-traditional materials, such as wool or fishline, that have a close connection with the work that I create. How people perceive my work is a very important part of art making for me. I like creating an experience that engages the viewer’s curiosity and sense of humour, but still has meaning on a deeper level.
