Sights and sounds of the cosmos come alive with SubZeroArts’ new participatory audio/visual experience “Pillars of Light”. Inspired by the night sky, reactive columns respond to your motion, creating visuals and music for nebulae, auroras and beyond!
Founded in 2009 by Deane Hughes and Rik MacLean, SubZeroArts is a group of visualists, sound artists, technologists, fabricators and software engineers working in contemporary art and science. Their work is inspired by technology, environment and natural phenomenon, a mixture of disciplines blended together with the goal of creating new and magical installations that allow visitors to interact with and contribute to their own artistic experiences.
SubZeroArts’ latest work “Pillars of Light” expands on previous interactive works such as “LightSoundPlay!” presented at SAW Gallery (Nuit Blanche 2012), and “The Sound is Watching You”, a month-long installation hosted by New Adventures in Sound Arts in 2013. “We eagerly accepted the challenge presented by SUPERNOVA,” says Rik MacLean of SubZeroArts. “We wanted to add a new tactile aspect to our multimedia experiences, so we’ve dreamed bigger, reached further, and brought our work into a whole new physical environment to explore.”
