Joseph Skuce – Midway – Clarendon Court – ByWard Zone

Location: ByWard zone
Description: MIDWAY: three large video projections of amusement park rides. My attempt is to trigger anticipation, expectation and nostalgia by viewing the large moving images. Hype indeed. Selfies encouraged.

Amusement park rides create feelings anticipation, elation and nostalgia. As viewers pass through the space, they encounter images of roller coasters and other thrilling rides. My attempt is to trigger excitement and expectation by viewing the large moving images. Hype indeed. Nostalgia will be the icing on the cake as these images and emotions will perhaps trigger memories and/or a romantic notion.

Bio: I am an artist from Saskatoon Saskatchewan. I work in photography, installation, moving image, mixed media and am trying to become a painter.
Common themes in my work include memory, mindfulness, decay and nostalgia. I am drawn to worn, weathered, decaying surfaces. I like rectangles and glass. My photographic work is influenced by the street photography masters of the 1960’s and 70’s who can find harmony in chaos and the everyday. Peter Doig’s paintings have possessed me to paint albeit my progress is slow. Ottawa’s Adrian Gollner’s video works have inspired me to work in moving images that I now use in Nuit Blanche.
