FIXT POINT will take their storymobile to the streets of Ottawa, gathering the stories and collective memories of residents and local heroes. These almost lost tales will be combined into a theatrical production to be performed in December 2014.
“Tale of a Town Ottawa” is a site-specific theatre and media project that celebrates Canadian neighbourhoods by preserving their recent past. This celebration is essential and time sensitive: across Canada, neighbourhood culture is slowly vanishing. Countless communities, along with the stories they hold, are in the midst of disappearing as old gives way to new, local gives way to global, and diversity gives way to uniformity. One neighbourhood at a time, this project captures our collective community memory by voicing the almost lost stories that reveal our identity and inform our future. And now we are looking for Ottawa’s stories! We will be gathering stories about Orléans, Downtown Rideau and Westboro at our Nuit Blanche storymobile installation, which will then be woven into a performance in December 2014. It is an incredibly exciting project that is revitalizing and celebrating communities across the map.
