Ash Moniz, Moment of Change, Clarendon courtyard

“Moment of Change” is a sculptural installation made of solid white plaster installed in a public urban space. It is a replica that was cast from molding the surface of a large pile of rubble, after a home was demolished to make way for a condominium.

Ash Moniz is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Toronto, who grew up between the U.A.E and Morocco. His work consists of socially engaged performances, installations, videos, and public interventions that dissect and challenge the physical and ideological frameworks of the constantly shifting forms of our urban world.. Concentrating on uncertainty and deconstruction, the processes that lead to the creation of a work are often in themselves performative and/or interventionist. These processes bring to light the relationships between transportations, and transformations presented through paradoxical and politically challenging manners. Moniz’s work often solidifies the moment that lies between stages of urban development.
