The Cyclotrope Circus is based on the zoetrope, an optical kinetic device created in the 19th century. Bring your mates, and come animate, with apparatuses from the evolution of moving pictures! Come see a Supernova, just by spinning a Cyclotrope!
The Cyclotrope Circus is an interactive kinetic sculpture series created by Montreal-based artist Jacquelyn Hébert, Ottawa based filmmaker Megan Turnbull, and Winnipeg-based artist Nathalie Coulson. The circus has shows at the upcoming Winnipeg Folk Festival, and Winnipeg’s Nuit Blanche. Our goal with this project is to offer a DIY interactive art experience while fostering an appreciation of moving image history and technology. We are excited at the opportunity to use our combined experiences in environmental design, bicycle construction, sculpture and motion pictures to create this project. This project is in keeping with our various interests and artistic goals such as: promoting collaboration, engaging the public and imparting an appreciation of obsolete technologies.
